Can a hospital stay worsen your health?

As someone in need of medical care in Arizona, you are literally putting your life into the hands of the people working at your hospital. While these institutions and people work hard to help those in need, there are unfortunately some cases in which they might be doing more harm than good.

First of all, hospitals are obviously a hotbed of activity for illnesses. The Nursing School Hub lists ten prominent diseases that can frequently be found in hospitals, which includes everything from influenza to tuberculosis and Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Unfortunately, people like you who need to visit hospitals often have compromised immune systems. This makes it easier for you to catch diseases or infections from bacterial or viral sources.

The cleanliness of the hospital and hygiene practices of the staff often play a huge role in the prevention of contagions spreading around. Not all factors of these highly contagious diseases can be controlled entirely, especially in larger hospitals or hospitals that are severely understaffed for their patient load. However, cleanliness is critical. Things should be disinfected frequently and properly. Care should be put into monitoring, tracking, and documenting daily cleanings.

Through good practices, the possibility of your health worsening during a hospital stay is drastically lowered. However, the simple fact that you are in a compromised state of health and surrounded by many other different illnesses will automatically raise your risk factors. This is something that should be kept in mind the next time you visit or stay for an extended period of time.
